Landscape in Oil: Over the Rainbow

5x5' canvas, original, one of a kind, my largest oil painting

This canvas has had many stages, as all oil paintings do. Which is very different than a watercolor - one shot and there's no do-overs in the world of watercolor. It is majorly challenging and new for me to have the option to paint, and paint again on one surface. How to know when to keep going how to know when to pull back. The layer under this landscape is a riot of rainbow stripes. I love that beneath the slow, steady weight of this piece is that kind of bright energy. A bit of the red comes through the  blue sky, a reminder of the evolution of the piece.
